At most shops, choosing a cigar means looking through a display case. Our humidor is built to be walked into. It is one of the largest in Kyushu.
Several hundred varieties stand on the shelves at all times. You may take them up one by one and check the aroma before you decide. Seeing a cigar in a photograph and holding it in your hand are two quite different pleasures.
Cigars are vulnerable to dryness and to excess moisture alike, and their condition largely decides the flavor. We control temperature and humidity 24 hours a day to keep them in the best possible state.
Nearly every guest tells us they have no idea which to choose. We will ask about the strength you prefer, how long you are able to stay, and what you would like to drink, then narrow it down to a few cigars and suggest them. From there, choosing by aroma alone is quite enough.
Beyond the door, several hundred varieties of cigars stand in rows.
HOW WE SERVE
You will not be left in front of several hundred cigars to decide on your own. Say one word, and we will narrow it to a few and bring them to you.
"Something light." "About an hour." "It is my first time." That is quite enough. Strength, how long you have, what you are drinking — answer any one of them and we will take it from there.
For a first visit we usually suggest our own CHARUTO No.2 with a French press coffee and a house-made chocolate. No.2 is short and thick, about thirty to forty minutes. Nothing that outstays its welcome.
A cigar, a drink and something sweet — that alone makes an evening. And if you have a figure in mind, we will work within it. Please do say so without hesitation.
The coffee is brewed in a French press, extracting the oils along with it.
OUR OWN CIGAR
A cigar you can smoke nowhere else, in 6 sizes.
As a bar that carries cigars from around the world, we wanted one cigar that bears our own name.
That cigar is “CHARUTO.” It is available only here. No other shop carries it; it was made for this bar alone.
Even from the same leaf, the flavor changes with thickness — the ring gauge — and with length. Thin cigars smoke lightly, thick ones richly. We keep 6 sizes so that you can confirm those differences one cigar at a time.
For a first cigar, something thin and short; for guests who visit often, something thick and long. Please try one to begin with.
Prices start at 600 yen. That does not mean we made them mild to match the price. The flavour is fully there. We priced them so that no one has to weigh the cost when choosing a first cigar.

* Ring gauge is a measure of thickness — the larger the number, the thicker the cigar. Lengths are in inches. Smoking times are general estimates based on size and will vary with how you smoke. HOW TO CHOOSE
Answer any one of them, and we will narrow it down from there.

Tell us how long you can stay. 30 minutes calls for a short cigar; 2 hours allows something thick and long. We begin by narrowing on time. You are welcome to put it out partway through, though following the flavor as it changes through a whole cigar is one of its pleasures.

For a first cigar, something light. Cigar smoke is not inhaled into the lungs. You taste it in the mouth and let it go, so even those who do not smoke cigarettes can enjoy it. If it feels too mild, we move up in strength with the next one.

To pair with a sweet Madeira, a full-bodied cigar; with coffee, something medium. Deciding the drink first and choosing the cigar from there is an order we gladly recommend as well.

Tell us the range you have in mind and we will choose within it. Cigar prices are set by retail rates approved by the government under the Tobacco Business Act, item by item, and they are the same at every shop including ours. No shop is dearer or cheaper than another. So please say what you have in mind.
ORIGIN
Even among cigars, the land where the leaf grew changes the flavor entirely.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Gentle and well balanced. Creamy, without an edge — the origin we most often recommend to someone smoking their first cigar. Davidoff, VegaFina and Kristoff among others.
NICARAGUA
An origin that has risen sharply in reputation. Spice and cacao, with sweetness inside the strength. Padrón, Plasencia and Tatuaje among them. Our own CHARUTO is made from leaf of this origin as well.
CUBA
The byword for cigars. Deep aromas of earth and leather, with real body. Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, Partagás, Montecristo, Cohiba and others. Worldwide shortages continue, so some brands may have to be waited for.
PAIRING
Smoked on its own, a cigar honestly gives you only half of what it has. It is complete only when there is a glass to go with it.
That is why Madeira is in our name. We keep more than 100 kinds of the fortified wine of Madeira, Portugal. It runs from bone dry to intensely sweet, so there is always somewhere to land, whether your cigar is mild or forceful.
And one more thing. A cigar tastes one way in its first half and another in its second. Mild at the start, it grows richer and sweeter toward the end. Switch to a different glass at that point, and the same cigar shows an entirely different face.
When you choose a cigar, we suggest the glass for its second half as well. For guests who do not drink, there is French press coffee and our house-made craft cola.
COFFEE
What you pair with a cigar does not have to be alcohol. Our French press coffee is brewed strong enough to stand beside the smoke. Some of our regulars have never ordered a Madeira and come only for the coffee.
Hot, iced, flavoured, espresso. Tea, house-made craft cola and ginger ale, and non-alcoholic cocktails are here too. You are welcome to spend the whole evening on a cigar and a coffee, without a drop of alcohol.
